Welcome to our 222nd newsletter on Star Atlas! This weekly newsletter, published by Aephia Industries, focuses entirely on the development of this ambitious game. Here, we attempt to aggregate all the newsworthy tidbits revealed, primarily by the team, throughout the past week.

Last week was relatively light on news, but Holosim Chapter 2 continues to move full steam ahead, with near-daily patches rolling out from the team. Alongside that, two PIPs are currently open for you to vote on! Lastly, on a more somber note, the team lost some notable individuals due to recent cost-saving measures.

Let’s dive in!

Holosim S1 – Chapter 2

Fleet respawn timers are back. After the change that made MRZ much more difficult due to having NPCs also target players that did not trigger them, John (Product Manager) had temporarily disabled the timers after a lot of people lost their fleets. Now, this has been reverted, meaning destroyed fleets are towed back to the CSS and take between 30 minutes and 18 hours to respawn, depending on fleet size.

During the Atlas Brew, John shared that the NPC system now has a name: the Nemesis Engine.

John also confirmed that an in-app purchases page is a few weeks out. Players will be able to buy a limited number of crew via Stripe. What you buy stays in Holosim and can’t be transferred to mainnet. End-of-chapter mainnet rewards are unchanged. Crew doesn’t carry between chapters; daily check-ins remain the main source, late starters can still reach the cap, and social quests will add another path once they go live.

Holosim Changelog

Holosim saw near-daily releases bringing various fixes and improvements. Below are all the changelogs for patches that were rolled out since our previous newsletter.

v1.2.7

  • Redesigned Command View fleet layout — hostile fleets are now separated into a distinct zone from passive enemy fleets for easier target identification
  • Locked loot piles are no longer shown in the Command View — only salvageable loot is displayed
  • Fleets exceeding the initial viewport now spread into the zoomable world space instead of clustering
  • Player-involved combat events are now highlighted in the tactical feed
  • Improved Command View performance when 50+ fleets are present in a sector
  • Galaxy map attack flash no longer occasionally covers the entire map

v1.2.8

  • Battle pass holders now see only their battle pass rewards in Account Settings instead of z.ink subscription details
  • Added Link Z.Ink button for battle pass holders to connect their z.ink account directly from Account Settings

v1.2.9

  • Major Command View performance improvements — reduced CPU usage and smoother gameplay in busy sectors
  • Fixed zATLAS balance not loading when first connecting a wallet

v1.2.10

  • Fixed automated mining Fleet Orders getting stuck after completing a mining run — state transitions now resolve immediately instead of waiting up to 5 seconds
  • Fixed cancelling a crafting job mid-run not returning resources, Atlas fee, or crew — cancel now reliably completes in two steps to avoid transaction size limits
  • Fixed crafting jobs that silently consumed resources and crew without appearing in the Workshop UI — jobs now always appear and can be started or cancelled from the Workshop
  • Added ‘Ready to Start’ status in the Workshop for crafting jobs where ingredients are locked but the job hasn’t started — click Start to begin or Cancel to recover your resources
  • Added Refresh Workshop button to the Workshop idle state — use this if a crafting job isn’t showing up after a transaction
  • Added ‘Hostile NPCs Only’ patrol behavior — patrol fleets now have a mode that only engages NPC fleets actively targeting your fleets, ignoring other players
  • Fixed patrol fleets freezing when their attack target is destroyed by another fleet mid-engagement — patrol now re-scans and picks a new target immediately
  • Fixed Zink subscription ‘Unlocked’ badge not showing in Account Settings after linking a Z.Ink account
  • Fixed ship crafting permanently losing resources on recipes with 5 or more ingredients — each ingredient is now deposited in its own transaction, eliminating transaction size overflow
  • Fixed tracked mission panel being unclickable when a fleet is selected — the quest panel now always appears above the fleet window
  • Fixed battle log showing SHIPS X0 for destroyed or despawned fleets — displays a dash when ship count data is unavailable

v1.2.11

  • Command View fleet cards now show Fuel Tank, Ammo Bank, and Cargo Hold with food/toolkit breakdown
  • Added Reload Weapons button (W hotkey) to quickly reload ammo from the Command View
  • Fleet docking, undocking, warping, and destruction now update in real-time during Command View sessions
  • Fleet counts in the Command View header now stay accurate as fleets enter and leave the sector
  • Destroyed fleets are now properly removed from the Command View
  • Counterstrike missiles now land before damage numbers appear
  • Command View overlay performance improved — smoother frame rates in sectors with 50+ fleets
  • Fleet cargo loading reduced from 5 seconds to under 1 second

v1.2.12

  • Hostile Fleet Indicator — a new panel above your fleet card shows all fleets currently attacking you with live HP/SP/AP bars, cooldown status, and missile-in-flight indicators
  • Click any hostile fleet card to instantly select it as your target without panning the map
  • Fleet cards now show the owner name — your name on Your Fleet, player names on targets, and Spawned by Nemesis Engine for NPC fleets
  • HP, Shield, and AP icons now appear above the stat values on fleet ring markers for clearer at-a-glance readability

Staff Reductions

Michael (CEO) confirmed further staff reductions had taken place recently. Chip, VP of Game Product and one of the more well-known team members, was among those let go.

“Chip was a big loss, and I’m sad to see him go. But we have to continue reducing positions to manage costs. It’s as straightforward as that.”

On priorities: Holosim, C4, and z.ink are the focus. Michael also confirmed that work continues on Galia mode and Tangential Worlds. As announced during the December Town Hall, a third-party team has been working on the latter. Lastly, he added that things will be slow on the UE5 side for a while.
